Fix the bus (改善巴士小巴服務)

分享:

Two proposals to fix the bus. One to solve a nuisance, the other to save lives.
First – why do people have to run to the front of minibuses to find out whether it is the one that takes them home? In 2015, I proposed to increase the number of seats on the minibus (which Transport Department will do soon), and to make sure route numbers are displayed on the front, the side and the back of minibuses (no progress yet) (在小巴的前、後及車身兩旁展示路線號碼). An operator explained that it is too much work for drivers to change the numbers when a vehicle is used for a different route. But that if it was the law, he would do it. Pity we can’t rely on ‘good service’. Maybe we need electronic numbers? We need to fix this. It is a matter of safety as passengers are often forced to walk on the road to pass queues at the bus stop. Moreover, it slows down boarding and impact traffic flows.
Secondly – we need bollards to protect passengers waiting at bus stops along high speed and busy roads (於主要道路巴士站安裝短柱保障候車乘客的安全). Bollards are heavy metal poles strong enough to stop a car from crashing onto the pavement. We have seen spectacular accidents some with fatal consequences of cars crashing into waiting passengers. Sure, we need driver education and stronger enforcement against speeding. At the same time, we need these bollards to provide greater safety for people waiting along the side of busy roads waiting for the bus.
