Surfers in Trouble(冇板點滑浪?)

分享:

Surfing is now officially an Olympic sport and will be included in the 2020 Tokyo games.

There are two places where surfers practice: Tai Long Sai Wan in Sai Kung(西貢大浪西灣), and, more conveniently, Big Wave Bay in the Southern District(南區大浪灣). Both have favourable wind and wave conditions to learn the skills.

But the surfers are in trouble and need help. Urgently.

After wide spread media coverage of embarrassing unauthorized occupation of government land in Tai Tam Bay, government is cleaning up all the villages on Hong Kong Island.

Unlike in the New Territories, all unauthorized structures have to go. The deadline for Big Way Bay is the end of this week. And many are storage facilities for surfing  equipment and wet suits(政府清拆僭建物包括滑浪板貯存設施).

So, what needs to be done?

First of all, we need a policy guideline from the Home Affairs Bureau(民政局需提供政策支援), explaining that it is essential in Hong Kong that the Government provides public storage facilities for water sports along our coast. After all, surf boards are too large for the minibus, MTR, elevators, and people’s homes. Water sports should be available to all people, not only to the rich people who can afford private clubs, and have their own cars and homes big enough for surf boards.

Secondly, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department needs to provide temporary storage facilities(containers) for surfers at Big Wave Bay(康文署需提供滑浪板貯存設施). It is cheap, and there is space to do this.

Finally, the Lands Department should extend the deadline for clearance of the unauthorized surf board sheds in Big Wave Bay until alternative local storage facilities have been provided(地政署需延長清拆限期).
